ASHHADU ALLA ILAHA ILLALLAH WA ASHHADU ANNA MUHAMMADAR RASULULLAH

I have been thinking about it for the last 11 years since I recite the Kalima Shahadah on August 1995, in Honiara, Solomon Islands. I thought it would be a good idea to write about something that I have been keeping to myself  and few others, over the years, on this page. Thus, this page will be dedicated to our society in Solomon Islands.

The actual number of Muslims in Solomon Islands is uncertain as far as the Muslim society and various Islamic organizations there are concerned. The government put the number at 200 muslims. I myself I have no idea how many muslims are there as I do not have direct contact to the muslim brothers for the past few years.. But I believe since the day I embrace Islam to this day, many people have learnt about Islam and I believe there are many who have had said the Kalima Shahadah as I did many years ago.. I will be keeping this page for reports on the Muslim Community in Solomon Islands and their progresses as soon as I get the reports..

~ABOUT ME~

Bismillah-hir-Rahmanir Rahim

My name is Ahmad Christopher Puronasia, I was born Christopher Pupuro in a family of 14, including my parents. I was born at Tarapaina Clinic, Small Malaita, Malaita Province - Solomon Islands, to a catholic family and I have been a Roman catholic follower till I decided to decided to change my faith in 1995.

I have known about Islam since 1990 and the first questions that get me to really start thinking seriously about the relgionand searching for answers, were thrown at me while I was in form 4 (grade 10), 1992. It was my cousin (Mathew Oiririu who was a Muslim at that time -now Moon follower) who asked me those very questions. Its just comparative religion questions but ones that one thinking and I thought I have to look for the right answer.
Since then, its like a mission for me then in 1994 I attended my grade 12 in the city (King George VI) where the Islamic centre is located.. from there I got my hand on some books and phumplets from the late Ahmet Deedat writings and I managed to watch his vedios debates plus numerous articles..
In that year (1994) too I did my final year english research project on the Islamic faith.
By 1995 while I was doing my foundation at USP (SI Centre) I met a visiting Ustadz from RISEAP (Ustadz Abdul Muhaemin Kareem) whom I finally recite the shahadah with.. He have helped get to the International Islamic University Malaysia.. Learning about Islam while doing my Bachelors in Communication - majoring Public Relations.. I have been a close friend to the family till today.

I have learnt alot through my struggles.. I have learnt to see people people's lips when they talk and the truth behind those moving lips. I have learnt that all human beings are worthy of who they are and what they believe- and whats inside our hearts sets us as someone good or bad.. I have learnt  Inshyallah is the most polite way of saying NO despite in Islam, it supoosed to be a fulfilled thing, like when a friend ask you to meet him, and yu reply Inshyallah- 100/100 yu have to make it..

I have learnt a great deal of things, personally while I am in this country.. I have learnt more about Islam and Muslims in particular and this helps me understand the difference of been a Muslim and Islam.. It makes me stronger as a muslim and a follower of Islam..

I believe Islam is the one and only religion that have everything together, thus have the universal laws that could bring end to human suffering on this earth- Inshyallah (from my heart).

The United States Department of State states that according to the most recent reports, there were over 200 Muslims in the country. [1] Adherents.com estimates that there are about 70 Muslims in the country. However, Adherents.com received this number from a 1996 estimate.[2]

WE SHOULD NOTE THAT EXTREMISIM IS NOT A FRUIT OF TRUST, EQUALITY AND FAIRNESS- EXTREMISM ARISES WHEN YOU DO NOT TREAT OTHER PEOPLE EQUALLY AND FAIRLY DUE TO THEIR BELIEF, RACE, COLOR, CULTURE OR LANGUAGE:

Letters

I WRITE to assure you and your readers that, contrary to suggestions carried in your newspaper on Monday 8 and Wednesday 10 August, at no stage has Australia’s Foreign Minister, the Hon Alexander Downer MP, asked the Solomon Islands police to monitor the activities of Muslims in Solomon Islands.
Mr Downer has had no discussions with Solomon Islands authorities on these issues.
Of course, all countries need to remain alert for extremists of any creed who might incite people to carry out terrorist acts or commit such acts themselves.
But there is no suggestion that Solomon Islands Muslims would contemplate becoming involved in that sort of activity.
People should not link peaceful law-abiding and moderate Muslims in the Pacific region or elsewhere with extremism. We need to remember that it is not Islam as a religion, but extremism and violence with which the international community is rightly concerned.

Patrick Cole
Australian High
Commissioner

Editor’s note: We appreciate Mr Cole’s explanations. But at the same time, we wish to stand by our RSIP/PPF sources that they’ve received instructions from Australia’s Foreign Affairs Department to look into the activities of the local Muslim community.

THE TALK OF INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM AND ITS ASSOCIATION WITH ISLAM AND MUSLIMS.

The one sided world news and the biased media in particular played a big role in advocating the Islamphobia which is consuming the world over these days.

Today, whenever we hear the word terrorism - we quickly single handedly pick out muslims.. here, we always refer to sucide bombings and kidnappings and hostage taking across the world by Muslims. Without any hesitation, we jumped right on the news which usually reported by certain groups of people who wanted their message to be driven across borders regardless of its truthfulness.

One question that we always forgot or ignore to ask ourselves is " Why does it happen?"  We do not want to care about history and the truth behind whats going on around the world and we kept blindly following the news. We know for some reason, some supper powers and a group of people behind the scene are responsible for what we eat every day.. from our education systems, financial systems to our social life.

How many of you would agree with me that INTERNATIONAL SUNCTIONS are act of terrorism? lets look at some definitions of TERRORISM........."is defined by the US Department of Defense as "the unlawful use of -- or threatened use of -- force or violence against individuals or property to coerce or intimidate governments or societies, often to achieve political, religious, or ideological objectives."

There are alot of people who points to chychen fighters as terrorists, without knowing WHY and WHAT they are fighting for.. When other people fight for freedom, you called them freedom fighters, when these guys who have beeen fighting for their freedom for the last 400 years.. you say its terrorism, what do you expect?? fights like that go overboard and result in dead of civilians.. Just because muslims are doing this to free themselves doesnt mean that this is what Islam teach. so better read more so as not to give short and unasked for comments on anyone.

There numerous other definitions as adopted by the european union and one by the United Nations. All of which points to Violence and use of force..

My question to you is, What happen when developed countries sanctioned poor countries results in millions dying without food or medicine?? What happen when the economy of the third world countries are terrorised by some individuals for the most powerful economies results in millions loosing their jobs and hundreds of thousands dies?? what  do we call this?? Do you think is it right let loook at people from third world countries die like animals despite the vast amount of food we spoil everyday?? Is it only the violence by using force termed as terrorism?? we should outlaw International sucntions and all laws that allowed pervert rich countries to put their sunctions on a poor country because of its government.  Developed countries shouldn't be acting as DICTATORS for smaller countries.. you are eating all our resources and food and still want to terrorise us..

How to Pray (10 easy steps)

Salim 2006 © speak7.com

Face the Qiblah (toward Mecca), and make sure you’re in a clean area, think about which prayer you will be praying: 1st prayer (Subh), 2nd prayer (Dhuhr), 3rd (Asr), 4th (Maghrib), 5th (Ishaa).

Standing, you will start the prayer raising both hands up close to your ears and say "Allahu Akbar" (God is Most Great). (Look at the picture on the side).

Then put one hand on the top of the other hand between your chest and upper stomach, and start reciting surat “al fatiha”, say “ameen” once you finish it, and then start reciting another small surat (check here to find out more about “al fatiha” and the other “surats”).

Once you finish reciting raise your hands up to the ears, saying "Allahu Akbar." Bow (your hands on your knees, back straight, your face toward the ground, saying three times, "Subhana rabbiyal adheem" (Glory be to my Lord Almighty). This position is called (ruku’). See photo.

Rise back to standing while saying "Sami’a Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal hamd" (God hears those who call upon Him; Our Lord, praise be to You).

Raise hands up, saying "Allahu Akbar" then descend to the ground (see photo), while your face on the ground say three times "Subhana Rabbiyal A'ala" (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High). This position is called “sujud”

Rise to a sitting position (see picture), saying "Allahu Akbar."

Then prostrate back on the ground (this is the second time you do it), while your face on the ground say three times "Subhana Rabbiyal A'ala"

This will conclude the first “rak’a”. Now to start the second “raka’a” you simply need to repeat steps from 2 to 8. Note that at the end of your second “rak’a” you will have to add step 9, which is:

Rise to a sitting positition (see photo), remain sitting and recite the first part of the Tashahhud in Arabic:  "Atta-hiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibatu As-salamu 'alaika ayyuh-an-Nabiyyu wa rahmat-ullahi wa barakatuhu As-salamu 'alaina wa 'alaa 'Ibaadillah-is-salihin. Ash-hadu-al-la-ilaha illAllahu wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa Rasuluh”. Note that while reciting “Ash-hadu-al-la ilaha illaAllahu …” one should move the index finger of the right hand in a small circle like you’re drawing a circle on the sand beach with your index while the hand is still on the thigh. Only the index should be moving, the rest of the fingers and hand don’t have to move. See photo:

If the prayer is to be longer than 2 “rak'as”, then add the same steps from 2 to 8 depending on how many “rak’as” you have to perfom, for example if you have to make 4 “rak’as” then you will have to add steps 2 to 8 two more times (which means 4 times in total). Then finally add the step number 9 again (basically after each two “rak’as” the step #9 is required).

Main prayers of the day:

1st prayer (Subh) = 2 Rakats

2nd prayer (Dhuhr) = 4 Rakats

3rd prayer (Asr) = 4 Rakats

4th prayer (Maghrib) = 3 Rakats

5th prayer (Ishaa) = 4 Rakats

To end your prayer, while still sitting, turn your face to the right and say "Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah" (Peace be upon you and God's blessings), and turn to the left and say the same “Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah". And that’s how you finish your prayer, easy!

Example of how to pray the 3rd Prayer (Asr) which consist of 4 Rakats: Follow steps 1-8, then steps 2-9, then steps 2-8, then finally step 2-10.

Note:  There is a second half part of tashahhud which is recited in the final “rak’a” but if it can be learned later, you don’t have to do it if you’re still in your first days, it says “Allahumma salli ala Muhammad wa ala aali Muhammad kama salaita ala Ibraheem, wa barik ala Muhammad wa ala aali Muhammad kama barakta ala Ibraheem wa ala aali Ibraheem fel ‘alameena innaka hameedun majeed”, this will be added to step 9 before reaching step 10.
